“Fill your bowl to the brim
and it will spill.
Keep sharpening your knife
and it will blunt.
Chase after money and security
and your heart will never unclench.
Care about people’s approval
and you will be their prisoner.
Do your work, then step back.
The only path to serenity.” —

Do your work, then step back.
The only path to serenity.” —

“I have no right to call myself one who knows. I was one who seeks, and I still am, but I no longer seek in the stars or in the books; I’m beginning to hear the teachings of my blood pulsing within me. My story isn’t pleasant, It’s not sweet and harmonious like invented stories; It tastes of folly and bewilderment, of madness and dream, like the life of all people who no longer want to lie to themselves.”

The Jacket
I was not in trouble right away, only later.
At first, I just looked at your jacket, hanging in the usual way on the hook on my office door, sable black I fancy now, slubbed silk for sure.
More than noticing, I was not in trouble yet.
But then I leaned into that jacket
And drew breath through it
Taking you into me,
Stunned to learn what trouble is.
